On June 1, 2026, the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs (SUP) held a founding meeting dedicated to the formation of a new Defense Committee.
The event brought together companies working in defence, dual-use, innovative technologies, manufacturing, and related service sectors.
During the meeting, participants discussed expectations for the future Committee’s work and outlined the key issues currently relevant to the defence and dual-use industries.
The Committee as a Hub for Industry Solutions
Opening remarks were delivered by Kateryna Glazkova, Executive Director of SUP, who emphasized the importance of establishing a permanent working platform within the Union for companies operating in the defence and dual-use sectors.
She noted that SUP brings together a wide range of businesses from all regions of Ukraine and across various industries. Therefore, the creation of a dedicated Committee is a logical response to the growing number of companies operating in the defence technology field.
The Committee is intended to serve as a platform for manufacturers, experts, and service companies supporting the sector, with the goal of jointly developing solutions to remove barriers and drive industry growth. This includes both practical, targeted measures and systemic changes, particularly in regulatory policy and legislation.
Private Sector as a Driver of Defence Innovation
Kateryna also emphasized that in the context of war, the private sector plays a crucial role in the development of defence technologies, rapid testing of solutions, and adaptation of products to military needs. This is a key factor shaping Ukraine’s competitive advantage internationally, as global interest in the defence and dual-use sector continues to grow.
Another important focus of the Committee’s future work will be the regulation of defence technology exports and the protection of intellectual property rights of Ukrainian manufacturers, which is becoming increasingly important in the context of international cooperation and growing investment interest.
Next Steps for Joint Work
SUP views the future Defense Committee as a practical platform for companies ready to engage in systematic work on removing barriers in the defence and dual-use sectors, building a unified business position, and facilitating dialogue with government institutions and international partners.
The next step will be the collection of written proposals from companies, the development of an initial mapping of sector challenges, and the identification of 1–2 priority topics on which the Committee will begin its practical work.
