Masi Nayyem, Head of the “Veteranska Sich” Committee of Veteran Entrepreneurs, commented to Ukrainian media on the enactment of the Law on Veteran Entrepreneurship — a critical step toward building a sustainable veteran economy in Ukraine.

The new law establishes a legal framework for the growth of veteran-owned businesses, opens doors for systemic state support, and shifts the societal perception of veterans’ roles. Veterans are now recognized not merely as recipients of social aid but as full participants in economic processes and drivers of entrepreneurship. However, as Masi Nayyem points out, the adoption of the law is only the beginning. The key challenge for the next phase is its practical implementation and the launch of effective support mechanisms.

“It would be proper for the state to say: if a veteran holds, for example, a thirty percent ownership stake, the company receives tax incentives. However, these funds must be directed toward real payments to the veteran — actual earnings, rather than a formal status,” noted the Committee Chairman.

The transition from legislative changes to real economic results requires systemic effort and the consolidation of the veteran business community. This is precisely the mission of the “Veteranska Sich” Committee of Veteran Entrepreneurs at the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs (SUP) — a platform for unification, advocacy, and the development of veteran business.

Recently, the Committee held its first strategic session, outlining a clear focus for its activities. Participants defined key priorities: advocating for the interests of veteran entrepreneurs, initiating legislative changes, and shaping a strong, responsible image of the veteran entrepreneur within the economy and society. Special attention was given to practical steps required to fill the new legislation with tangible substance.

The “Veteranska Sich” Committee operates as an environment of action — focused on results, partnerships, and long-term solutions for veteran-led businesses.
