On May 4th, the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs met with the head of the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation (UANIPIO) Olena Orliuk.
During the meeting, Orliuk stated that the key to a successful and high-quality public service is a focus on the needs of businesses. That is why the Intellectual Property Office is committed to maintaining a constant dialogue with industry and business associations and is interested in a deep understanding of business processes related to intellectual property.
“One of the working standards of the IP office is continuous dialogue with the business community, professional environment, and the IP sphere. We believe that while building its services, the state should focus primarily on the needs and requests of the business and clients. Such meetings have already become a permanent format of work. In particular, when working on legislative initiatives, we first communicate with the market and then present these proposals to the Ministry or the Parliament. We understand that initiatives worked out together with stakeholders will be positively perceived by the market, and such dialogue will help to focus on solving the most relevant tasks,” – emphasized the head of the IP office.
During the meeting, they discussed, among other things:
- Reducing the review timeframes for trademark applications.
- The functioning of the Appeals Chamber and other collegiate bodies.
- Gaps in IP legislation and their elimination.
- Activating work on changes to legislation on inventions.
- Harmonization of Ukrainian and European legislation.
- Introduction of European practices for effective protection of intellectual property rights and improving overall IP culture.
The IP Office team has emphasized their focus on digitalization of all processes, ensuring full representation of international registrations in the CIS, and optimizing the functioning of electronic systems for interaction with applicants. This was highlighted by Mykola Pototskyi, advisor to the director of the IP Office.
“A comprehensive work is being carried out on the CIS. The priority areas include ensuring full representation of information on international registrations in the CIS, supplementing information on sanctioned individuals so that businesses have additional opportunities to verify counterparties for sanction risks, and improving search tools. The IP Office team is actively working on these tasks, but is facing technical issues that require time to resolve. We are also working on launching a full-fledged electronic cabinet, which will significantly simplify interaction with the Office,” – assured the advisor to the director of the IP Office.
State services should prioritize the needs of businesses, according to Olena Orliuk during a meeting with the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs.
The Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs is grateful for the productive and informative meeting and is ready to participate in the development of legislation that is necessary and beneficial for businesses.
