“To refine and extend the mandatory application of Standards to all law enforcement agencies”— this is the key message voiced by Vyacheslav Klimov, President of SUP, member of the Council for Entrepreneurship during the state of war under the President of Ukraine, co-owner of Nova Poshta.
Today, an interim meeting of business associations took place at the Prosecutor General’s Office, during which the “Standards of activity for prosecutors in the protection of institutions during pre-trial investigation” were discussed.
Mandatory compliance is an important component currently absent from the Standards. Legally, this is a structured provision rather than a norm and carries an advisory character. Therefore, on behalf of the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs – SUP, we also emphasized the importance of creating a coordination platform and opening a hotline, which will expedite the General Prosecutor’s response to violations by law enforcement agencies.
Important remarks from other business associations included:
- Monitoring compliance with standards;
- Introducing disciplinary responsibility for non-compliance with standards;
- Adhering to reasonable terms of procedural actions.
Adherence to established standards is important. The Prosecutor’s Office is the coordinating body empowered to regulate the processes of evidence collection and recording within the law and determine the sequence, procedure, and rules of procedural actions.
We hope that the voiced remarks and proposals will also be considered regarding the Comprehensive Plan for Reforming Law Enforcement Agencies.
Without business support, it will be difficult to withstand external threats, so state institutions must strive for effective interaction with entrepreneurs more than ever.
We thank the Prosecutor General’s Office and colleagues from other business associations for jointly developing the standards.
