At the national forum “Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses”, SUP Executive Director Kateryna Glazkova offered insights into the Ukrainian businesses’ experience of survival and transformation in 2020.
She highlighted that small and micro businesses had been most seriously affected, lacking the financial cushion to help them through the coronacrisis. As revealed by the SUP’s February survey into the businesses’ attitudes, the challenge that Ukrainian entrepreneurs find hardest to handle is the unpredictability of the nearest future (sudden switches of the lockdown on and off, new requirements and game rules).
This being said, even last year, Ukrainian businesses still managed to open new factories, launch new production lines, adapt to new public needs (set up the production of protective clothing, protective face shields, etc.).
In her speech, Kateryna Glazkova voiced the TOP 3 expectations that businesses have this year from the Ukrainian government:
- Forward-thinking approach towards shaping the economic policy
- Predictability of the game rules for businesses
- Sweeping reforms (specifically, the law enforcement and judicial reforms). We at SUP are ready to contribute our expertise and actively participate in the process.
